Our History

The origins of Purley Jubilee F.C.  can be traced back to the early 1970’s and the “Purley Saturday club”.  The Saturday Club was based at the Goosecroft Recreation Ground and provided football training for local younsters on Saturday mornings.  The growing popularity of the Saturday Club provided clear evidence of a need for a junior football club created in Purley to meet the needs of the local youngsters.

So  it was, that Purley Jubilee was formed playing the inaugural match against Upper Basildon as part of Purley’s celebration of the Queens Silver Jubilee; hence the major significance of Jubilee in the club’s name.  By 1980 the club had four junior teams and continued to expand until the mid 1980’s.  In 1982 a Men’s Team was formed and played in the Reading & District Sunday Football league for many years until its demise in 2003.

2002 was the club’s 25th Anniversary and was celebrated in style with the Men’s Team achieving a memorable League & Cup double.  Purley Jubilee’s spiritual home is the Goosecroft Recreation Ground, Beech Road, Purley on Thames, where a majority of our teams have played their home games over the last thirty years.  The number of teams within the Club has ebbed and flowed with the seasons, but the advent of Mini-Soccer allied to the introduction of the Development Squad in 2000; has seen the Club continue to thrive and expand.

Our club continues to evolve and 2008 saw major advances in our website,  a revamp for our club badge and Purley Jubilee raincoats for the teams and managers.   For 2009 we welcomed a  new mens team into our club. In 2010 we achieved FA Charter Club Status and this was achieved in only one submission such was the quality of of our submission.

Whilst we look back at our history with pride, we also look forward to a great future and the significant milestone of running our first ever tournament!
