U16s Blue – Top of the League! (3-2 win)

‘Top of the league, Top of the league’.  These were the shouts heard by the players and supporters of the Blues after the latest 3 – 2 home win over Woodley Wanderers.  In a game where the result was more important than the performance, Matt Emmett got us off to a great start with a 20yd spank into the far corner after 15 mins. They levelled with a great goal of their own and it was 1 – 1 at half time. The manager wasn’t happy with the way they had been let back into the game and made some tactical changes during the interval. The second half saw another two great, great goals. Firstly Adam Brocks with a soaring header, finishing off a superb team move, and then, with 10 minutes to go, we were awarded a free kick 25 yds out.  Josh Bishop stepped up to take it, and would normally have tried to pick out the 6′3″ Tom Bullion, but then heard a shout from the manager on the sideline – ‘Bish, strike for goal in the far corner!’. Up he stepped and what a strike, they had two defenders on the line, and such was the ferocity of the strike, one of them ducked, and the other nearly got decapitated. That goal was good enough to win any game. Still unbeaten at home, and now 5 wins on the bounce.  Man of the match – Adam Brocks
