Maidenhead Pythons  2 – 0  Purley Jubilee

Our first match today was against the league leaders so we were determined not to let them have it easy & to give them a good fight. We held our own during the first half & we went into the break level at 0 – 0.

The Hawks went 1 -0 up at the start of the second half but we battled back to equalise with a goal from Shaun Barnes. We obviously had the Hawks worried as they started to play tough & they scored their second goal whilst Purley’s Harry Young was on the ground after a hard tackle. We didn’t give up though & we continued to battle but the Hawks scored again whilst another of our players, Luke Fifield, was down after being at the end of a high tackle. Although we had shouted at the referee that we had a player down, he had allowed play to continue & despite our protests, he allowed the goal to stand. Not satisfied with the referees decision the Purley manager removed the team from the pitch & the match ended before the final whistle.

Sadly, the Hawks manager was only concerned about the final score & walked away without so much as an apology that 2 of our players had been in tears from hard tackles.

The Fair Play Award went to our goalie Connor Taylor for some good saves & some good shouted instructions to the team.

Our 2nd match was against the struggling Maidenhead Pythons. Unfortunately, the 1st match had left us disheartened & we showed no enthusiam in the game at all. Joe Wakefield battled hard throughout the game in defence stopping some shots that could quite easily have ended up in the back of the net & the one’s that he couldn’t stop were cleared by our on form goalie Connor Taylor. The Pythons did manage to get one shot on target & then we gave them a second from a deflection off one of our own players. The final whistle went with Purley losing 2 -0.

The Fair Play Award went to Joe Wakefield for continued battling.

Purley Jubilee  0 – 1  Wokingham & Emmbrook

Two matches today with the first being a tough match against the Colts. Both teams battled hard & it was an end to end game. Purley’s goal came from Shaun Barnes.

The Fair Play Award went to the goal scorer Shaun Barnes.

The second match was against the struggling Wokingham & Emmbrook. Unfortunately, we were the ones struggling as we went 1 – 0 down & we just didn’t seem to have any fight in us to pull it back.

The Fair Play Award went to Joe Wakefield for his continued battling right to the end.

Again we came out with a good strong start. Both teams battled hard & the first half ended with deserved 0 – 0 score.

Both teams were equally matched at the start of the second half  until Shaun Barnes came on to replace Luke Fifield & within a couple of minutes we finally went ahead after an excellent pass from Shaun to Harry Young, who put the ball in the back of the net. Unfortunately, once we go ahead, we appear to take our foot off the gas. Charlie Peppett came on to replace Joe Wakefield but with just 10 minutes of the game left, we sat back which let allowed the Lions to come back with the equaliser with the game ending with a 1-1 draw.

Due to the weather the game was postponed but a friendly match was arranged with our Purley Reds rivals. Unfortunately, we lost to them again with a final score of 3 – 1 with our goal coming from Joe Wakefield.

We had a good strong start to the first half but our finishing off was letting us down again & we just couldn’t get the ball in the net. However, after an excellent shot from Harry Young & a superb save from our goalie Connor Taylor at the other end, we finished the half 1 – 0 ahead.

We came out with a winning attitude in the second half & quickly went 2 up with a goal from Luke Fifield. Joe Wakefield was replaced by Charlie Peppett & we quickly went 3 up with a second goal from Luke Fifield. Joe Wakefield came back on to replace Harry Young who had to come off due to a problem with his feet & Caversham took the chance to come back with a goal which we quickly cancelled out with a goal from our captain Luke Wiseman. Unfortunately, with the score at 4 -1 we assumed that we had the game won & relaxed off but Caversham had other ideas & came at us scoring 2 more goals within a few minutes. Thankfully the ref blew the final whistle before Caversham could do any more damage & we ended the game with a lucky 4 -3 win.

The Fair Play Award went to Luke Fifield.

We were a bit down hearted after the defeat against our Purley rivals last week & our heads really weren’t in the game during the 1st half. Luke Wiseman & Charlie Peppett were replaced by Daniel Strudley & Shaun Barnes to try & wake things up but we couldn’t keep the Kestrels back & they eventually got the ball in the net & finished the 1st half ahead.

After a team talk at half time, Purley started the 2nd half determined to pull the game back. Luke Wiseman & Charlie Peppett started the half in place of Luke Thompson (injury) & Luke Fifield. Both teams had some good shots at goal but some equally good saves from the goalkeepers kept the ball out of the nets. Luke Fifield came on to replace Joe Wakefield but, no matter how hard we battled, we just couldn’t get the ball in the net. Then, with only a couple of minutes of the game left, Luke Fifield finally hit the target after a superb pass from Harry Young. Luke’s goal celebration was as equally entertaining!

The Fair Play Award went to our goalkeeper Connor Taylor for some excellent saves that even received praise from the Kestrels supporters.

Our first game of 2010 & it’s against our Purley rivals. Our last meeting ended in 1-1 draw so both teams were eager for a win this time round.

The Blues started off strong but the Reds fought back & it was end to end play. A debatable penalty was awarded to the Reds for a questionable tackle/dive & a well taken spot kick gave the Reds the lead. An excellent header from Luke Thompson, just seconds before the half time whistle, unfortunately went just wide.

The Blues battled hard in the second half & had some good shots at goal but unfortunately the Reds goalkeeper made some equally good saves. Shaun Barnes & Luke Thompson were replaced by Luke Fifield & Charlie Peppett for a last push forward but luck wasn’t on our side & the Reds got their first win against the Blues.

The Fair Play award went to Harry Young.

We Weren’t due to play on the 9th January due to our 11 team league but since the return from the Christmas break, all matches have been postponed due to the weather conditions for Health & Safety reasons. 

All games will be re-arranged during spare weeks and/or in the evenings. Details will follow as soon as they are known.

A good win for Purley before the Christmas break. Both Purley goals were scored by Luke Fifield & Luke Wiseman played brilliantly in defence giving us a well deserved final score.

The Fair Play Award went to Luke Wiseman & The Gob of the Match to his dad Tony.

Happy Birthday to Charlie Peppett for the 14th December.

An expected tough match against the league leaders was exactly what we got this week. We started the match rather nervously but within a few minutes from kick off we were awarded a penalty kick for a foul. Harry Young stepped up to the spot but unfortunately hit the ball straight at the Hawks goalie. The miss seemed to put us completely off our stride & the Hawks went on to score 2 goals in the 1st half.

Charlie Peppett started the 2nd half replacing Shaun Barnes & after a team talk at half time we came out much stronger. Unfortunately, Luke Thompson was very unlucky when trying to clear the ball from the Purley goal mouth &  headed the ball into the top corner of our own goal. Further substitutions were made with Joe Wakefield & Luke Wiseman being replaced by Luke Fifield & Shaun Barnes & Charlie Peppett & Harry Young being replaced by Joe Wakefield & Luke Wiseman just before the final whistle.

The Fair Play Award went to Luke Wiseman & the Gob of the Match Award to Nick Strudley.
