History – article

Hello readers,

I was sorting through some old photos and came across the attached picture of my first PJFC Youth Team of 1994-95.

At the time I joined Purley Jubilee, they had no Youth teams as the previous 1993-94 season Lindsey Maskell’s U16’s team ceased to exist.

I formed an  U12’s team  to enter the South Chiltern Minor League, from lads from the area, to add to the one Mens team, for the start of the 1994-95.

I managed to get sponsorship from Lancaster Landrover( who, at that time, were based in Pangbourne opposite the Petrol Station) and, along with my Assistant David Attewell, we saw this team through to the, then, maximum U16 age level. I then became Chairman, until I stood down at the end of the 2004/05 season, after 11 years with  the Club.

The lads pictured are now 26/27 years old , and many are married with children, including my son, Christopher, who has a son of his own, who is now 9 months old. How time flies.

I am glad the Youth section of PJFC is still going strong and, maybe, the current lads, and their parents, would like to see the picture of the lads who started it all off, on your website.

Good Luck to all concerned, for the rest of the 2009-10 season.

Kind Regards,
                    Bryan Horsnell
